Many times police arrest mass amounts of people in a short period of time. Sometimes they believe that the people might be connected to a crime or various crimes. Earlier this month, police throughout Ohio arrested 23 people on various drug charges. These charges will require a rigorous criminal defense.
Those arrested for drug crimes often have their name printed in media, and details of their arrests are disclosed through police reports. One important thing that many news stories leave out is the side of the story of the people arrested.
People who are arrested on drug charges should understand that they have rights. Just because they are arrested doesn't mean police are entitled to search their property without a proper warrant or reason. Although a person can be charged with a crime, they still have rights that are protected.
Many of the people in the drug arrests that happened earlier in the month are facing felony drug charges in Ohio. Many of them have to do with possession or drug trafficking. This means there punishment could be more severe if they are convicted. The raids were carried out in Lancaster, Pickerington, Fairfield Beach and Columbus and were meant to target crack cocaine, heroin and prescription drug crimes.
Therefore, those facing felony drug charges might be wise to seek the help of an attorney who has experience dealing with drug charges. An attorney can help someone accused of a crime determine what information they should provide to police and what they shouldn't answer.
